2020 Mardi Gras Parades in Louisiana
According to history, Louisiana is the true birth place of Mardi Gras. While the holiday itself was celebrated as "Shrove Tuesday" for centuries in Europe, the celebration we know today as Mardi Gras was first celebrated by the d'Iberville brothers after successfully defending the French claim of the newly discovered territory. Point du Mardi Gras, was named for the holiday although celebration of the event was more of a victory than a traditional Shrove Tuesday celebration. Mardi Gras celebration started on Mobile and then onto Biloxi, which is why Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana all claim to be the birthplace of Mardi Gras. But according to history, Louisiana's claim to be the actual birthplace of Mardi Gras is substatiated by history.
